Fig. 2

Effect of Rosmarinus officinalis essential oil (ROEO) on PC12 cell proliferation and acetylcholinesterase activity. a Effect of ROEO on PC12 cells viability. PC12 cells were seeded onto 96-well plates at a density of 1×105 cells/ml. After overnight incubation, cells were treated with 0, 5, 10, 50 or 100 μg/ml ROEO for 48 h and the cell viability was evaluated using MTT assay. Data are presented as a percentage of the control and represent the mean of three independent trials ±.SD *P≤0.05 vs. control. b Effect of ROEO on the acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity in PC12 cells. PC12 cells were seeded onto 96-well plates at a density of 1×105 cells/ml. After overnight incubation, cells were treated with 50 ng/ml of nerve growth factor (NGF) or 10 μg/ml of ROEO for 48 h. The control indicates cells incubated for 48 h without NGF or ROEO treatment. AChE activity was expressed in percentage of control. Data represent the mean of three independent trials ±.SD *P≤0.05, **P<≤0.01 vs. control
