Cells were seeded on 12-well culture plates and treated with the HPE and DE in the presence or absence of 50 μM phorbol myristic acetate (PMA) for 24 h. c, d MMP1 and PKCα mRNAs were quantified by fold units using the real-time polymerase chain reaction. e-g Elastase activity was measured between 381 and 402 nm immediately after adding the substrate.
